The rule for trading draft picks was brought up in discussions this afternoon so I thought it would be good to address this with the league.

The current rule is writen in the rules twice:

"Trading: Trading may not involve cash. Owners may trade players or draft picks (7 of each draft per year).  "
"You may trade up to 7 FYPD draft picks per season. "
"You may trade up to 7 FYPD draft picks per season."

The rule as it is written is pretty clear that you can only trade 7 picks, period.  I was discussing with an interested party and mentioned that I believe the intent of the rule was to be a little looser and be something like "you can only trade Net 7 picks".  However, it didn't make it into the rules.

The rule is that you can only trade 7 picks period.  I know at least one team operated under this assumption when trading picks.  I also know of at least one owner who wanted to trade more picks similar to the trades agreed to today and was told he could only trade 7.

So I have to go by the letter of the law how it is written and also how it has been carried out so far.  I can't update the rules in the middle of the draft.  It wouldn't be fair to the other owners who operated under the rule as written.

So you can only trade 7 picks, but this can be a topic we as a league discuss and vote on in the offseason.  As such, I created a Winter Meetings board where we can discuss this and other possible changes at season's end.   Sorry about any confusion this rule has caused. I'd be happy to discuss further if anyone has any input.

Any head way on this? I have a multitude of deals revving picks in the works and would like to know where we stand.
I'm sure there's going to be many deals from this point on involving pics I think it should be handled ASAP. Thank you.
