It has become my belief that we have too many compensation picks in this league.  There is rarely a player in our league that is won in free agency that does not generate some sort of comp pick for the owner who loses them.  I am all for comp picks, but there are many below average players who generate picks upon their departure.

I would like to propose a two step reduction in compensation picks.

Step 1: Eliminate all 15th round comp picks for 2017. The type of player generating a 15th round comp pick is a well below league average player and the compensation pick itself isn't worth much coming at the end of the 15th round.

Step 2: In 2018, reduce the comp picks further.  I put this off until 2018 in case someone's strategy including getting compensatory picks.  I am open to which rounds to cut, but I was thinking cutting comp picks for at least rounds 7 through 10.  The league average salary is around $3 mil give or take.  Removing comp picks round 7 to 10 would eliminate receiving comp picks for average to below average players.

I really would like to get rid of round 15 comp picks and will put that at least up for a vote, but would like to get others feed back about our compensatory system.

I fully support this. I agree that the compensatory pick system is a bit out of hand, and I think your solutions are well-reasoned and would help clean up the draft.

Makes sense to me.  No need for compensation picks for below average players.

I am always down with getting more picks but agree that there do seem to be a lot of them so this makes sense to me as well.

So we did not revisit this in the off season.

Is everyone OK with trimming down the comp picks for compensation for rounds 1 - 6 starting this year?

Circling back to this.  We ended up not trimming this down in 2018.  Just be advised that in 2019 comp picks for rounds 7 - 10 will no longer exist.   I will adjust the rules this off-season.
